MiniMax H3

1440P and 2K both output 2560×1440, and one costs 2.5× more

"Why is my 2K job three times the price when the file is the same size as the 1440P one?"

I get a version of that question most weeks, and the honest answer is: because 2K was never a pixel upgrade. Two tiers on MiniMax H3 return 2560×1440. One bills four credits per output second, the other bills ten, and the difference has nothing to do with how the picture looks.

Read the last three rows together. If you want an anamorphic 21:9 frame, or a shot that has to land on an exact last frame at 2560×1440, or a restyle of footage you already have, only one of these can do the job. The price stops being a choice at that point.

Buying 1440P on purpose

  • You are shooting genre. The six presets live here: drama versus action, live action versus animation, each with a photoreal variant.
  • You want the cheapest 2560×1440. A ten-second master for forty credits is the lowest route to that pixel count on the platform.
  • Your takes are short and exploratory.

Buying 2K on purpose

  • You need an aspect ratio the standard set does not have. 21:9 for a trailer frame; 4:3 or 3:4 for editorial; adaptive when the output must match a source.
  • You are feeding it footage. Video-to-video is a 2K capability.
  • You need paired frames at full resolution.

Note the minimum: 2K starts at four seconds. A one-second test is not a 2K job at all, and asking for one is a validation error.

The comparison, with numbers

Same prompt, ten seconds, both at 2560×1440:

# 1440P: 40 credits, ~$0.40
curl https://api.callirra.com/v1/videos \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $CALLIRRA_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"model":"minimax-h3","prompt":"…","resolution":"1440P","duration_seconds":10}'

# 2K: 100 credits, ~$1.00
curl https://api.callirra.com/v1/videos \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $CALLIRRA_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"model":"minimax-h3","prompt":"…","resolution":"2K","duration_seconds":10}'

The 60-credit gap is not a quality upgrade on the same picture. If you do not need one of the three 2K capabilities, you are buying headroom you will not use. If you do need one, rendering at 1440P and cropping means inventing pixels on a delivery spec that asked for a different frame.

Where it goes wrong

Buying 2K for sharper output. Both are 2560×1440.

Buying 1440P for a restyle. Video-to-video is not available there.

Assuming paired frames scale by tier. They exist on 480P, 768P and 2K — not on 1080P or 1440P.

Testing at one second on 2K. Rejected: four seconds is the floor.

When neither is right

If your deliverable is 1080p, both of these are overkill — 1080P at three credits a second is the cheaper route, and it runs to ten seconds. If your shot is a preset-driven genre piece that never leaves 16:9, 1440P is the correct purchase and 2K is waste.

FAQ

Is 2K higher quality? Not in raster. It carries more capability, not more pixels.

Can 1440P restyle footage? No. Video-to-video is a 2K capability.

Which is cheaper for a 21:9 shot? 2K is the only tier that offers 21:9 without cropping.

Why does 2K cost 2.5× more? Because of the three capabilities, not the raster.

Both tiers, with their rates and the ten-second cost, are on Callirra's rate card. If you find a job where the 2K premium bought you nothing, that is a product question I would like to see.
