Why it works
The crouch is half the shot, so the first line is spent on stillness and ear movement before the leap, which gives the jump a launch point. Landing face-down is stated explicitly because a model left alone will tend to land a fox on its feet, and the camera drop mirrors the arc while holding the animal low in the frame.
